RIP Pop Culture Icon Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011)
Pop culture icon Elizabeth Taylor has passed away early this morning at the ripe old age of 79. She left an indelible mark on all of us (that is, the people who knew her) She was part of Old Hollywood. She was the classiest of all of them. Watching clips of her movies, I get a sense that she's an awesome actress in her own right. She out-class Young Hollywood. My main goal now is to watch every last one of her movies. The entire world-and those who only know her personal, private life that she had married 7 times, twice to Richard 'Dick' Burton and only knew her from her many illnesses she battled- girl's a true fighrer thru n' thru-mourns for her death, not only cos she was a film screen queen but she was a true humanitarian.
As news of Elizabeth Taylor's death come in, I have this ominous feeling of death. If the legendary Elizabeth Taylor can died, what would happened to the rest of us? I wish I was immortal. In a way, Elizabeth Taylor has been immortalized through her acting and humanitarian work. But me, what do I have to be immortalized for when I died? What kind of legacy can I leave behid?

Backstreet Boys & New Kids on the Block concert
It's not 2 separate concerts; it's 1 concert. The New Kids and Backstreet Boys (minus 1) is doing a concert TOGETHER! Can you believe it?!
The New Kids are like old men now and Backstreet Boys- who cares about 'em anymore? They're so like totally washed-out. So I'll bet they won't sell-out their tour.
People would rather Charlie Sheen than these two old men bands, but there are old geysers bands like the Rolling Stones, what's left of the Grateful Dead, what's left of the Beatles (Paul McCartney)
But the New Kids and Backstreet Boys fans are married with families of their own. Let's not even talk about their fans, let's talk about the 'boy' bands, they are married and have their own families. How would it look to their lil ones to have their daddies dancing around the stage, singing old songs that nobody cares for.
The new fans-what new fans?-don't even care for them, so why bother even having a joint concert?

A League of Their Own
I've never watched this flick before today. Always wanted to. This flick, probably based on real-life events, took place during WWII. While men were at war, women did everything, including work in factories and also, lo and behold, playing baseball. No one would believe they could do it. I mean, they got laugh at at their very 1st game. But they believe in themselve. That's what's most important, believing in yourselves, not even their damn manager, Jimmy Dugan, played by Tom Hanks, believed in them. But they got real guts putting themselves out like that. Real gumption, I called it. Perservance paid off in the end. They got notice when they were in Life by one of the most popular players, Dotty, a real kickass catcher, but her kid sis, Kid, was competing against her, so they traded Kid to another team. Kid's team won the World Series against Dotty.
Fast forward to present when the girls were the first ladies to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Kid and Dotty-the long-lost sisters were reunited etc and all the ballplayers reunited after many years apart.
At the end of the movie they show the gang aged. The real ladies. not the actors playing the ladies. They went back to their old hannting grounds to PLAY BALL!

Sweet Valley Confidential Countdown
So... 10 years have gone by
What has the decade been like for Liz and Jess Wakefield fiction-wise?
In my version, Jess would've still be playing the field cause she's now a supermodel or maybe an A-list actress. Liz would be an editor of her own newspaper or maybe Sweet Valley News and be back with Jeffrey French; they're so perfect for each other-if they were back together, he would be her top photographer while she would be the editor-in-chief of the News. If only... If only it happened that way. But it doesn't :(
Even though they've been thru thick and thin at SVH, Liz and Jess are now estranged Liz has run away again, but this time, she doesn't want to go back. Maybe too many bad memories?
Only time will tell.
All of these questions will be answered (I hope so!) within a little more than 10 days.

All About Sex and Body Image
Oooh la la, this blog entry will be about body image and the most taboo of topics-SEX!
Why is most if not all of American culture so concerned with body image? Huh?
I mean, Hollywood has this image that everyone should be size 0 for females, which causes people to turn to eating disorders, whether it's bulimic or anorexic. They turn to plastic surgery-Botox, liposuction, breast implants & lip enhancement-makes them look fake. Why can't they age naturally? People also want to look perfect-exercising in a gym (IMHO, gyms aren't beneficiary b/c nobody gets fresh air; they just stay inside exercising. Granted they lose calories. But don't exercise machines run on electricity? So I thought we trying to save the planet, not ourselves. If you need exercise and wanna save the planet, go to the great outdoors and take a hike (I mean esercise-wise, not get lost) or take a walk or go for a jog in the park. In short, you can just commune with nature.
sex, Sex, SEX!!! All the TV shows I watch lately.... and all the 80s and 90s movies had a theme: sex! Kids who watched those movies condone those actions they see on TV and movies b/c the actors/actresses are their 'role models.' Some 'role models.' Isn't a role model supposedly set a good example, not a bad one? Movies from the 80s and 90s show kids not only into sex but also high (on life!) and on drugs. Remember the Ashton Kutcher movie Dude, Where's My Car? and Dazed and Confused among others. Now life imitate art b/c a lot of celebs are totally into drugs w/ no consequences of their actions. They've lot of stoner movies lately. Remember the scandals of Kate Moss and Amy Winehouse? Young Hollywood are the kids' idols, which they shouldn't be b/c they set a bad example. The celebs doing drugs make it okay for our kids to do drugs, get high, act stupid. Acting stupid may include losing your virginity w/o knowing what you're doing because the liquor or drugs are controlling you.
A lot of teen shows (excluding Disney Channel) I watch are about sex:getting laid, getting drunk, getting hung over. Why the focus on teen sex? There is rise in teen pregnancies, as a result of teen sex. In the teen dramedy, Secret Life of American Teenager, at the beginning of the show, one girl is a slut (why is it when a girl sleeps around they're called a slut, whore, or easy or other derogatory names, but when a boy sleeps around it is okay? So much for equality.), another guy got another girl pregnant, but she doesn't even like him; it was only a one-night stand. There's also a Christian girl who is tempted by sex. First it starts with kissing, then it ends up in sex. The kids are not the only ones w/ problems: the parents have their own problems. which include infidelity and mayhem. (okay, maybe not mayhem but infidelity for sure)
Why is sex besides violence a major theme in the mass media?
Maybe it shows how much one love each other
Or deceive each other (infidelity, not telling the person they're with that they have STDs)
Most people don't do sex for love although I believe it should be reserved for love
Some people do it because of peer pressure
Or because of the need to do it for money (ie.:prostitution)
People should never misuse sex-it's a dangerous weapon
It should only be used in the name of love
Love forever and evermore

Fighter
The Fighter may be a good movie in some people's opinion, but not mine.
This movie helps me remember why I hate boxing. Once upon a time I enjoy watching boxing. Watching this boxing movie helps me remember why I hate boxing-because of the blood, sweat & gore but there is glory.
Maybe it won all those Oscars for the violence (during the boxing scenes) or quite possibly it won 'cuz it had so much profanity. Nowadays, the more profanity you have in your movie, the more likely you'll win an Oscar.
As for the violent boxing scenes, it looks damn real to me-all that blood gushing out his face, but I know for a fact that ain't real. Hollywood can be so realistic sometimes.
The Fighter is based on a true story about two brothers who want to be boxing champs. While the older one's a trainer, the younger one's the champ.
As for me, I much prefer wrestling, I know it's like boxing b/c it's violent, but hand-on-hand combat. It's much more barbaric. It's no holds bar. There's no blood, sweat, or gore like boxing. You can do whatever you damn well pls. thank you very much. I just love it when the ladies, ahem, tomboys take on each other. In wrestling, there are absolutely no rules.
Wrestling may be barbaric, but it beats being injured in boxing. But still you get injured in any sport even wrestling. Wrestling may be barbaric, but at least I don't have to be there to watch it: it's a spectator sport like boxing.
Stay safe in life
